Guts and glory

Estherville News

To the EDN:

This is an open letter to the members of the 2010-11 Estherville Lincoln Central Midgettes Basketball Team.

In a word WOW!

You give refreshed meaning to the worn-out phrase "You go, girl!"

Congratulations on a thrilling season that exhibited your perseverance, outstanding athleticism, and that personal desire to represent your team, school and yourselves in perfect balance ON AND OFF THE COURT.

I watched most of you growing up in our little city and it's a very warm and fuzzy feeling when good things happen to our youth.

Everyone in Estherville and the areas making up the ELC School District are very proud of your success that landed the team in the spotlight at Wells Fargo Arena in the capital city. Just knowing you held top-rated Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove to its lowest point total ever is spectacular and praiseworthy.

There's one more accomplishment to your credit that you may not fully realize.

It is your team that landed the name ELC on every sports page in every newspaper in the state last week. That doesn't happen very often. You most definitely were the attention-getter in every Iowa town and city! The fan map on the Des Moines Register website was very impressive as your fans and supporters gave a "shout out" in your honor.

Way to go your prowess will be honed under the direction of ELC G-BB Coach Brad Leonard and his staff. We look forward to hearing more about you in the coming years.

With that said, I want to offer special congratulations to graduating senior Ashley Weston. Also, accolades to Alyssa Johnson and Emily Kirchner who were selected to the 2A All-Tournament Team for going above and beyond.
