I travel six states surrounding Iowa. My job requires 5 to 5 1/2 days of me being gone. This gives me 1 1/2 day to catch up on the Daily News that my wife saves for me. So in retrospect I'd like to tough on three different articles that I can narrow down to one point.
The first is a letter to the editor concerning the hours this individual puts in their job and doesn't get compensated for it.
This person claims they are a cheap babysitter, plus educate the "babies". My dad once said that "if you don't feel your job is paying you what you think you deserve, then I would look for another job that does".
If this is the mentality of quite a few educators, than no wonder we rank 28th in the country, and that 25 percent of Iowa students do not graduate.
Iowa used to be ranked in the top 10.
The second article, I believe was a meeting with Senator Kibbie, where he made the statement about expanding unemployment payments for people out of work for an extended time. He used a statement that came from a previous House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and it goes like this, "Every dollar we put into unemployment benefits we put $1.60 in spending and this can create jobs".
Not only is this ludicrous, but it tells us that if this is the case, than all of us should stop working, collect the benefits, and the economy will grow itself.
The third is also a meeting with House member Wittenben.
It seemed he was impressed with his job and also all the perks, such as dinners and coffee engagements with the special interest groups.
That makes sense, considering his idea for Iowa is to spend, spend, and spend!
I can tie these altogether very easily.
The last election, Republicans took control of the Iowa house, as they did in many of the states that I travel in. This fellow Americans is why there is a Tea Party.
