Walz says thanks to the community

Estherville Daily News

To the EDN,

I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to a community who should be very proud of the commendable support in helping to make the Estherville Public Library what it is today.

On Friday of this week I'm closing the final chapter of 50 years in my library career. The progress through the years including the renovation project completed in 1995 is all a result of the importance the library is in our community. I am retiring with no regrets knowing that the library has increased in size, services and technology all as a result of the endless support from our City, County, State of Iowa programs for libraries including library service areas/districts, Friends of the Library organization, benefactors, and every individual near and far who have done their part for the Estherville Public Library. I'm proud to have been a part of the 108 years of library history.

I love poetry and quotes. A favorite quote is by John Lennon, "Imagine no possessions, I wonder if you can; no greed or hunger, a brotherhood of man. Imagine all the people sharing all the world." This defines the kind of community in which I live and have had the opportunity to work.

In closing I wish to share this quote by an anonymous writer which describes my feelings about my library career. "Life is not about the end of the story when you put down the book with a satisfied sigh. It's about all the chapters in between that make your heart race, bring a smile and make you cry as you work your way deliciously exhausted to the end of where you get to sayThat was a Great Story!"

Thanks for being a part of this great story of my 50 years at Estherville Public Library.

Sincerely,

Carolyn Walz,

Estherville
