John ‘Pat’ Patterson Sr.

ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for John 'Pat' Patterson Sr., 83, of Estherville will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Crossroads Community Church in Estherville with Pastor Jason Olson officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.

He died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.

John Patterson, the son of Emma Edna (Kiefer) Carpenter, was born March 3, 1929, in Denver, Colo.

As a young child, John moved with his family to Mason City and he received his education in the Mason City schools, graduating in 1948. As a young man his first job was at Mid-Continent Bottlers in Mason City. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Japan. Following his honorable discharge, Pat returned to the Mason City area. He was united in marriage to Wanda Jo Dudley on May 15, 1954. The couple made their home in Arizona, where they began raising their family and Pat was employed at Collins Radio. Then they moved to Texas, where Pat took great pleasure in working on the sets of John Wayne movies. Later they moved to Lake Mills where Pat was employed at Winnebago Industries in Forest City. Pat then took a position as inventory control/purchaser at Voltmaster in Corydon. Wanda died Aug. 4, 1984. After Pat retired from Voltmaster, he moved to Estherville to be closer to his family and make his home.

He was a member of Crossroads Community Church in Estherville.

Left to cherish John's memory are, his sons, Frank Patterson of Pahrump, Nev. and John Patterson Jr. and his wife, Denise, of Colby, Kan.; daughter, Sandra Reighard and her husband, Steve, of Estherville; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and siblings, Bob (Judy) Carpenter, Betty Brierly, Joanne Carpenter and Jerry (Mike) Carpenter.

Preceding John in death were his wife; mother, Emma Edna (Kiefer) Carpenter; brothers, James and Jackie Carpenter and sister, Dorothy Carpenter. Online condolences may be sent to
