Respect for the Constitution

May 17, 2012
Estherville Daily News

The Supreme Court of Iow unanimously voted that the legislation that started only marriage between a man and a woman is recognized by the State of Iowa was illegal and violated the Constitution of Iowa. It is illegal because it violates the Equal Rights Provision in the Iowa Constitution. It stands to reason that popular opinion should not be the test for equal rights guaranteed by the Constitution. Think what would happen if voting rights for Negroes, Jew, Paupers, Muslims, Indians, and other minorities were put up for popular vote. Equal rights are guaranteed by the Constitution!

Mr. Loeschen was so proud that the people of Iowa drop kicked the three justices from the Supreme Court, but the misinformation campaign waged by money from the outside and inside the state was deplorable. The people that supported the justice's decision were not active in getting the facts out to the public. The Supreme Court interpreted the Constitution in the only way they could as responsible jurists.

There are some facts about homosexuality that need to be clarified. First of all, it is not a chosen life style. It is caused by genetic difference from the usual development of an individual. About 5% or more of the population have this difference, so in a school of 1000 students, it is expected there could be as many as 5 students affected. Many students are bullied and suffer harassment to the point they choose suicide, such as the normal boy from Primghar that received national attention. Homosexuality is not abnormal. Many of our creative and famous citizens such as Leonard Bernstein, Barney Frank, Rachel Maddow, Anderson Cooper, and King James (version of the Bible) to name a few.

Larry Loeschen says he is too old to be fooled, but I'm convinced he has fooled himself by not searching for the truth. We can't rely on our bias and prejudice.
