In just a few weeks, students will resume classes at Estherville Lincoln Central. Some students will come with all the supplies they need.
Some students, sadly, will not.
That's why employees at Avera Holy Family Health and Estherville Medical Clinic collect supplies each August - to provide school supplies to students whose parents can't afford them. And every August, they load up a big van with pencils, tablets, colors and other supplies so students don't feel left out by not having the supplies they need.
You can help their valiant effort, by donating supplies for our local school children. Just check out local supermarkets or stores for a list of recommended school supplies. Then buy what you can afford to help out these needy children then drop supplies off at Estherville Medical Clinic, 926 N. Eighth St. in Estherville.
Or, just drop off any school supplies you would like to donate at Demoney Elementary at 109 S. 17th St. or at the middle school or high school. And if you purchase grocery items with the Box Tops For Education coupon, while you're thinking about it, why not snip off those coupons and drop them off at Demoney.
If you can't buy the entire complement of school supplies for a child, that's fine. Whatever you can afford to buy is welcome.
Many parents in our school district struggle just to put food on the table, making even school supplies a luxury.
It doesn't have to be that way, though. So the next time you go grocery shopping, why not pick up a box of pencils, a notebook or whatever you want, knowing that you'll be putting a smile on some child's face.
And that's a guarantee.
