LEMARS - Estherville Lincoln Central stepped up its play against Class 4A No. 13 LeMars on Thursday.

However it still wasn't quite enough as the Midgets lost 22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-17 to the Bulldogs.

Coach Tyler Johnson was happy with his team's play.

"We played better by leaps and bounds from Tuesday night," said Johnson in reference to the Spirit Lake match. "Something made them come together. They weren't happy with their play on Tuesday. The seniors stepped up tonight and showed leadership."

Johnson said the team should do well down the rest of the season if they keep playing volleyball like this.

"They we're having fun and were excited," he said. "We also were staying aggressive and playing smart."

Johnson said LeMars started making fewer errors in the fourth game and that's how the Bulldogs closed out the match.

For ELC, Paige Guge led the attack with 12 kills while Allie Sievert had 1, Casey Sievert had seven and Megan Jensen had four.

Casey Sievert finished with 21 set assists while Jensen had 10.

Defensively, Guge had 10 digs, Allie Sievert had nine and Kristen King had seven. Allie Sievert had four blocks and Alicia Jorgenson had two.
