The 2012-13 Iowa Lakes men's basketball team ended a two-year winning streak by the Alumni and Friends Team on Saturday.

A year ago, the Alumni pulled out a 93-90 overtime victory.

This past weekend, the new Laker squad turned a seven-point halftime lead into a 21-point victory, 93-72, over the Alumni.

The Alumni took a while to get going as the Lakers jumped out to an 8-0 lead.

The Alumni finally got on the board and made strides in closing the deficit helped by a pair of three-pointers from Dusty Wadlington to get within 23-17.

Four points by returning Laker Josh Schaben pushed the lead back to 10.

The Lakers again used 3-pointers to get back in the game. Wadlington hit his third of the half followed by another from Scott stokes. Quincy Young and Tay Parker went to work as the Alumni pulled within two, 35-33 with 1:45 left in the half.

But the Lakers' Deondre Parks scored next and Kelly Madison converted a three-point play to push the lead back to seven, 40-33, at the break.

The Alumni didn't get closer than six points in the second half and the Lakers kept a double digit lead throughout the final 10 minutes of the contest.

The Alumni finished with 15 three-pointers compared to seven by the Lakers.

Mark Miedema led the Lakers with 19 points while Madison had 17, Parks had 14 and Schaben had 12.

Wadlington led the Lakers with 17 points and was the only player in double figures.

Iowa Lakes opens the regular season at home Thursday with a 7:30 p.m. game against the Dordt Junior Varsity.
