Community Christmas Project a wonderful gesture

November 26, 2012
Estherville Daily News

As many of you are reading this, close to 1,000 people are benefitting from the Community Christmas Project, sponsored by the Estherville Area Ministerial Association.

This is a wonderful program that provides clothing, toys, blankets and other needed items to people who would otherwise quite simply not have a Christmas. In recent years, the number of recipients has ranged from somewhere in the 800s to just over 1,000.

While many may be surprised at the number of people benefitting from the project, perhaps even more surprising is the fact that they are able to get help.

Ours is a generous community, though. Just look at events such as the Emmet County Relay for Life, or donations that nonprofit groups and everyday individuals make on a regular basis to other persons and causes. The people of Emmet County really are quite a "soft touch" when it comes to helping others. And we'll continue to be known for that well into the future.

Interestingly, we take the generosity of the people here for granted. Sometimes it takes the perspective of outsiders who are continually amazed at the generosity of the people here to make us realize how giving people are.

So everyone give yourselves a pat on the back.

A pat well deserved.
