GRAETTINGER - The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire wrestling team opened its season with a pair of dual losses at home on Thursday.
The Titans opened the night against Class 2A No. 6 Spencer and lost 69-9.
Against Okoboji, GT/Ra won four of the eight contested matches, but four open weights allowed the Pioneers to win 48-27.
"The kids wrestled hard their entire matches and gave 100 percent," said GT/RA first-year coach Mike Jensen. "All of the kids wrestled with a lot of heart but some made little mistakes that cost them the match. This year is going to be a rebuilding year for our program that we look forward at taking on the task."
The Titans won two matches against Spencer.
Cody Thompson (285) pinned Casey Severson in 1:17 and Austin Thompson (132) won 5-3 over Tyson Samsel.
The only other close match was at 120 where Alex Hoffman lost 2-1 to Bailey Hawn.
In other matches, Matt McGrauth (170) lost by fall in 1:13 to Blaine Johnson; Kevin Smith (182) lost by fall to Pierce Jensen; Kyle Long (195) lost by fall in 2:34 to Austin Roberts; Sam George (126) lost by fall to John Christopherson in 46 seconds; Tyler Hoffman (145) lost by fall to Adam C. Johnson in 2:53; Hunter Brown (152) lost by fall to Hunter Cauthron in 50 seconds; and Kodi Fergeson (160) lost by fall to Tanner Schaefer in 54 seconds.
GT/RA forfeited at 106, 113, 138 and 220.
The Titans finished with three pins against Okoboji.
Alex Hofman beat Ryan Bolster in 1:29; McGrauth beat Brian Pollack in 25 seconds and Kevin Smith beat Kody Sauter in 3:09. Also Thompson (285) won 5-0 over Jacob Sauter and Fergeson (170) received a forfeit.
In other contested matches, Long (195) lost by fall in 1:54 to Justin Richardson; George (126) lost in 12 seconds to Kaleb Vanderpool; Tyler Hoffman (145) lost in 43 seconds to Taylor Cody; and Brown lost in 2:00 to Jordan Hanna.
GT/RA forfeited at 106, 132, 138 and 220. There was a double forfeit at 113.
The Titans are at the Okoboji Invitational today.
