ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Ruth Reed, 96, of Estherville will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Grandview Baptist Church in Estherville with Pastor Cody Crigger and Pastor Joel Jorgensen officiant. Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service at 1:30 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens in Spirit Lake.

She went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, her husband Dale's 100th birthday, at Good Samaritan Society in Estherville, at the age of 96 years, four months and 28 days.

Ruth Elnora (Miller) Reed, the daughter of James and Daisy (Foulk) Miller, was born July 10, 1916, in Ellis, Neb. Ruth grew up on a farm near Ellis, Neb., and received her education in rural country schools in the Ellis and Beatrice area. On Aug. 25, 1935, Ruth was united in marriage to Dale Reed in a double-ring ceremony with Dale's sister, Myrle Reed, and Ruth's brother, Orval Miller, at Ruth's parents farm home in Gage County, Nebraska. The couple came to Kossuth County on their honeymoon, made their home and farmed in the Bancroft and Swea City areas. The couple moved to rural Spirit Lake in 1950, where they farmed until 1967, when they moved to their farm north of Estherville. Ruth and Dale were blessed with 73 years of marriage. Ruth worked alongside Dale in all areas of farming, driving the John Deere tractor and raising hundreds of chickens. She did many years of RSVP volunteer work and was a Gold Star Mother having a son die while he was on active duty in the United States Navy.
