Ramirez, Bonner take first at GTRA Tournament

GRAETTINGER - Estherville Lincoln Central had three wrestlers go undefeated at the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Tournament on Saturday.

Oscar Ramirez (132) and Chase Bonner (220) both posted 2-0 records while Billy Snyder (152) won his lone match of the day.

Ramirez pinned Okoboji's Noah Bouse in 3:10 and then edged Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn's Heath Nagel 3-1.

Bonner pinned Garner-Hayfield/Ventura's Chase Ulven in 23 seconds and Sibley-Ocheyedan's Nic Salinas in 1:04.

Snyder defeated Sibley-Ocheyedan's Tyler O'Connor by technical fall, 19-2, in 4:53, but then got sick at went home for the day. He's expected to be back in the lineup this week.

Blake Gjerde posted a 3-1 record on the day as he finished second. He pinned GTRA's Hunter Brown in 47 seconds and won an 11-0 major decision against Tyler Reck of Sibley-Ocheyedan. He also won 1-0 against Okoboji's Taylor Cody, but he lost by fall to HMS' Dakota Drenth in 2:28.

Cole Budach (120) also posted a 3-1 record to finish second. He pinned Okoboji's Ryan Bolster in 1:32, HMS' Bram Meyer in 30 seconds and Sibley-Ocheyedan's Wade Dimmitt in 30 seconds. But he lost 2-0 to GTRA's Alex Hoffman.

Easton Gifford (106), Thomas Bortvit (138) and Jacob Bortvit (170), each went 1-2 on the day.

Gifford, who finished second, wrestled Okoboji's Brady Jones three times winning by fall in 4:52 and losing by fall in 40 seconds and 5:35.

Both Bortvits placed third at their respective weights.

Thomas Bortvit won a 7-4 decision over GTRA's Tyler Hoffman, but lost by fall to Okoboji's Jon Mitchell in 1:32 and to Sibley-Ocheyedan's Cole Hieronimus in 1:53.

Jake Bortvit won a 16-6 major decision over HMS' Michael Dau, but lost by fall to Christ DeNoble of Sibley-Ocheyedan in 2:28 and by technical fall to Okoboji's Justin Richardson, 21-6.

The Midgets travel to Algona tonight for a double dual with the Bulldogs and Okoboji.

ELC hosts its dual tournament this Saturday with Forest City, Linn-Mar, Spirit Lake Park and Bishop Heelan coming to town.
