Starting this week, work by Jerry Wilson's Estherville Lincoln Central seventh-grade art students will be exhibited at NorthStar Bank until the end of the month.
The project is part of the Neighborhood Artist Review sponsored by the Excel! Estherville Arts and Culture Committee.
Wilson challenged his student to tak some fairly abstract concepts and execute them in their work, including how light creates shadows and how those shadows can be rendered. Students were also asked to create highlights and reflections.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to take their artwork directly to the public and for the public to appreciate just how creative these students can be. Palm trees, sunsets, sports, music - you name it - it's all there, as vivid as any seventh-grader's imagination can make it.
There are a lot of people to thank for making this project possible, first of all, Jerry, for doing such a great job with his students. The students themselves also deserve a world of recognition for exhibiting their work. It's a great self-confidence builder.
The Excel! Estherville Arts and Culture Committee also deserves recognition for sponsoring the Neighborhood Artist Review which has brought some great artists to our community. Finally, NorthStar Bank has to be congratulated for offering the space so these young artists - and others - can get the recognition they deserve.
So please stop in and see their work.
