SPENCER - Trailing by just four at halftime, Spirit lake just couldn't score in the third quarter as Spencer pulled away for a 55-30 win on Friday.
The Indians trailed 12-10 after one quarter and 23-19 at halftime. But the tigers out-scored the Indians 17-2 in the third period.
Alec Henrickson led Spirit Lake with eight points. Paul Brown finished with five points and three assists. Trevor Smith also had five points while Cole Thate had four, Sam Harms had three and Zach Arneson and Alex Pringnitz each had two and Tyler Alger had one. Alger and Harms each had five rebounds.
Spencer had three players in double digits led by Matthew Klemme with 18 points and 11 rebounds while Matt Finnern had 13 points and Tanner Morris had 10.
On Saturday, Spirit Lake bounced back with a 53-41 win over Okoboji.
The Indians jumped out to a 19-8 lead after one quarter and led 31-14 at halftime. The Pioneers had a small rally to cut the deficit to 42-33 to start the fourth quarter and got within nine.
Henrickson led Spirit Lake with 14 points while Pringnitz had 12.Trevor Smith and Harms each had six points, Brown had five, Alger and Arneson each had four and Thate had two. Arneson, Pringnitz and Harms each had four rebounds. Brown had four assists and two steals while Henrickson had three assists and two steals.
Spirit Lake (9-4 overall, 4-5 in the Lakes Conference) is on the road against LeMars tonight.
