HASTINGS, Neb. Seth Shatto (Estherville, Iowa/ELC) led five Buena Vista wrestlers on Saturday afternoon when he claimed the 157-pound individual title during the Quality Hotel Open, hosted by Hastings College.
Shatto, who didn't allow a single point on the day, secured back-to-back 10-0 major decisions before a medical forfeit landed him a spot in the finals. That is when he picked up a 3-0 decision over Hastings' Connor Blanco to win his first individual title of the year, while improving his overall record to 14-6.
Jared Bronaugh (New Market, Ala./Buckhorn) also found his way into the finals, but came up short of an individual title as he fell 10-0 to David Reck of USAFA Prep. After a bye in the quarterfinal round put him in the semifinals, he then advanced into the championship match following his first pin of the year.
Seth Shatto earned his first individual title at 157 pounds at the Quality Hotel Open this past weekend.
Cameron Mennenoh (Audubon, Iowa/Audubon) (133), Steve Gutschenritter (Glenwood, Iowa/Glenwood) (141), and Gable Bonner (Estherville/ELC) (285) all placed fifth for BVU, to round out the high performances.
