ESTHERVILLE - Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Sweely, 87, of Estherville will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville with Monsignor Michael Sernett as Celebrant. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Wednesday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Vigil Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Estherville.

She died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at her home in Estherville.

Mary Patricia (Moran) Sweely, the daughter of John and Josephine (Griffith) Moran, was born Dec. 20, 1925, in Emmetsburg.

She received her education in the Emmetsburg schools, graduating from Emmetsburg High School.

On Aug. 9, 1948, Mary was united in marriage to Albert 'Gene' Sweely in Emmetsburg. The couple lived in Emmetsburg to make their home and Mary along with being a homemaker and mom was employed at the Burton Davidson Law Office and also the Helena Abstract Company. Later the family moved to Estherville to make their home and Mary was employed at Holy Family Hospital for 10 years. Gene died Aug. 6, 2000. For hobbies and recreation in her leisure time Mary enjoyed knitting and sewing.

Mary was a very active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church Parish in Estherville where she was a member of both the Catholic Daughters of America and the Altar and Rosary Society. Mary wrote the Respect for Life newsletter at Rosewood Manor; delivered Meals on Wheels; belonged to a birthday group and enjoyed planting flowers.

She was always there for her friends and willing to run everyone around.

Left to cherish Mary's memory are her step mother, Evelyn Moran of Emmetsburg; sister, Helen Nagel and her husband, Jim of Cedar Rapids, and their children, Molly and Katie; brother, John Moran and his wife, Michelle of Mason City; daughter, Patricia Stumpf and her husband, Harold of Alpha, Minn. and their children; Melissa Reetz and her husband, Danny and their children, Aaron Reetz and Jennifer Reetz and her son, Gavin; Shelly Todd and her husband, Terry and their children, Thomas and his daughter, Alexa; Trevor, Tyler, and Timmy; Michael Stumpf and his children, Mercedes, Brenden and Riley; Brian Stumpf; Bridget Flint and her daughter, Taylor; daughter, Therese Cohrs of Estherville and her children, Heather and her daughter, Jayden Ferrell; Marcus Cohrs and his son, Collin and Josh Cohrs; nephew, Scott Alexander of California and great niece, Tiffany Alexander of Florida.

Preceding Mary in death were her husband, Gene; one daughter, Kathryn Sweely; her parents and one sister, Geraldine Johnson.
