Conference rival Southwestern did its best to sweep the season series with Iowa Lakes on Saturday, but the Lakers rallied from a 12-point first half deficit and then held on for a 56-55 victory.

The Lakers are now riding an 11-game wining streak. Southwestern the last team to beat them, 51-43, on Dec. 11. The Spartans deploy a slow-paced game as they run the shot clock to 10 seconds before running their se plays.

The visitors took a 12-point lead against the Lakers Saturday in the first half, but the hosts cut the deficit to 24-19 by the break.

The Lakers had built a five-point lead with 6 minutes left in the game, but missed free throws and turnovers prevented them from extending the lead.

After the Spartans made a basket to get within one, they fouled Kevin Larson with 2 seconds remaining. Larson missed his free throw, but got the offensive board to preserve the Laker victory.

Deondre Parks led the Lakers as he was 9-of-14 from the field including 3-of-4 from 3-point. He finished with 23 points. Kelly Madison finished with eight points while Josh Schaben had seven, Mark Miedema had six, Ben Shellim had five, Larson had four and Tate Harmon had two.

Madison dished out four assists while Parks finished with four rebounds.

Iowa Lakes, ranked ninth, travels to Boone to take on Des Moines Area Community College on Wednesday. The Bears have a couple players back in their line-up that didn't play against the Lakers (17-4 overall, 8-1 in the conference) the first time, a 79-62 win over Jan. 5.
