The statistics are staggering. At any given moment, a woman somewhere in the world is the victim of domestic abuse or sexual assault. Every few minutes, a woman somewhere in the U.S. is also a victim. And, more likely than not, on any given day, somewhere in Iowa, some woman finds herself a victim too.
Tragically, funding to help victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault at both the state and national level is being cut. The very people who deserve our help the most simply are not getting it.
That's why we should all try to get out to support the Emmet County Friends of CAASA (Centers Against Abuse and Sexual Assault) CAASA Idol 2013 dinner and talent show Saturday, March 9 at the Estherville VFW banquet hall.
The dinner starts at 6 p.m. with the Idol Show at 7. Music and dancing will follow. There will also be al photo booth, silent auction and raffle. All proceeds will go to help victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault in Emmet County.
More talent is needed for the event. There is no contestant fee and a trophy will be awarded.
Sponsorships are available at the following levels:
n Director - $200.
n Producer - $100.
n Agent - $50.
Director and Producer sponsors will be listed on table tents at the event and agents will sponsor a singer and their name will be placed on the back of the T-shirt worn by contestants and celebrity waiters/waitresses.
Area businesses and individuals are also encouraged to donate items for the silent auction, raffle or door prizes.
The dinner is at 6 p.m. with the Idol Show following at 7. Music and dancing will follow.
Tickets are $15 and available at Simply Unique in Estherville or from any Emmet County Friends of CAASA member.
