Local dancers take part in second annual dance competition at Sami Bedell Center

SPIRIT LAKE - This past weekend dancers from around the area converged upon the Sami Bedell Performing Arts Center to participate in the second annual regional dance competition sponsored by Symposium Talent Competitions.

More than 90 routines competed with dancers ranging in ages from 5-18. Area dancers from Estherville and Spencer were among the competitors. Routines were given a bronze, silver, gold or diamond adjudicated award based upon their score. High point awards were then given to the top three scores in each category, and finally overall high point awards for each age division. Special judges awards were also presented.

n Abby Sander - Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Gold, first place - FIFTH PLACE OVERALL JUNIOR SOLOS.

n Jordan Phillips - Dhoom Tana - Gold, first place.

n Bridget Finley and Katie Hoffman - I've Got Rhythm - Gold, first place - FIRST PLACE AGE 13-14 DUETS - FIRST PLACE OVERALL SENIOR DUETS.

n Elizabeth Reardon and Riley Shryock - Mama I'm a Big Girl Now - Gold, First place - SECOND PLACE OVERALL JUNIOR DUETS.

n Elle Houseman, Liz Reardon and Riley Shryock - Party Rock - Gold, first place - HIGH SCORE AGE 9-10 TRIO - SECOND PLACE OVERALL JUNIOR TRIOS.

n I Love Lucy - Ruth Marth, Liz Reardon, Elle Houseman, Izzak Sander, Riley Shryock and Abby Sander - Gold, first place - HIGH SCORE AGE 9-10 SMALL GROUP - FIRST PLACE OVERALL JUNIOR SMALL GROUPS.

n Special Judges Award for Best Percussive Performance - Bridget Finley and Katie Hoffman.

n Local studio owner Danie Juhl commented, "We are very proud of all of our dancers, both recreational and competitive. We were very pleased with the performances by our dancers. We must give special thanks to the parents for their support and encouragement as well. Everyone worked very hard in preparing for this competition and their hard work paid off."

The dancers from L'ecole la Danse now turn their attention to preparing for their annual recital on May 11 at the Sami Center.
