The Estherville Parks and Recreation Board heard a proposal to update the dugouts at the Thoreson Park ballfields on Monday.
Bob Houseman from the Little League Association told the board they'd like to redo all the dugouts this year.
Whether they are all completed this year remains to be seen.
Houseman reported there are funds remaining from last year's "Push for the Pavilion" to begin redoing one or two fields this spring. He said the Little League Association is also pursuing grants.
Houseman said the new dugouts will be the same size as what is currently on Thoreson Field 1-8-by-24 feet. The plan is to start with one of the other two fields prior to start of the little league season, which is after Memorial Day. However Parks and Rec secretary Sara Montandon noted there is also a one-day tournament at Thoreson scheduled for May 11.
With cooperating weather, at least one field could be done prior to that date.
Already there are volunteer commitments for the demolition and cement work.
In another matter concerning Thoreson Park, the board discussed the old shelterhouse.
A contractor is willing to donate labor to re-roof the shelter.
However Estherville City Administrator Penny Clayton she wants to make sure the shelter is structurally sound before proceeding with the roofing.
