A new hardware supply at Alco led to a big benefit for the Estherville Lincoln Central industrial technology program.

According to Estherville Alco manager Kim Radig, the store had to reset its hardware department and received all new supplies.

The store was directed to donate the 'old stuff' to the local high school.

Three pallets and a cart were packed with everything from power tools to hand tools to paint supplies to nuts and bolts and even some toilet lids. It comes down to a grand total of around $23,000 retail, Radig said.

Accepting the donation on behalf of the school was high-school industrial technology teacher David Johnson.

"The paint will really come in handy," Johnson said. "Kids say all the time that they don't have money for paint."

Johnson said many student projects are made from donated materials-often from local businesses.

While part of the donated materials may not fit the needs of the ELC, some of the items may be auctioned to raise funds for the industrial technology program.
