The Iowa Lakes Baseball Team got on track this past weekend with four straight wins over Southwestern Community College.
The Lakers defeated Southwestern 12-4 and 9-6 on Saturday and 5-1 and 6-2 on Sunday.
In the first game on Saturday, Iowa Lakes pounded out 16 hits. Edwin Torres was 3-5 with two doubles and three RBIs. Miguel Rosario was 3-3 with a double and two RBIS. Steve Kandborg was 3-5 with two RBIS, Kevin Arroyo was 2-2 with a double and Edison Perez was 2-2 with two RBIS.
Christian Torrech pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up no runs on two hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Chaday Gigureoa earned the win as he gave up four runs on two hits with two strikeouts and six walks.
In the second game, the Lakers rallied from an early 4-0 deficit and took the lead for good in the fourth inning.
Jonathan Brinez pitched 4 1/3 innings and earned the win. He gave up six runs (two earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts and four walks. Michael De Los Santos pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up one hit. Juan Perez earned the save and gave up one hit and struck out two batters in one inning of work.
The Lakers had 12 hits led by Kandborg who went 3-4 with an RBI. Perez was 2-3 with an RBI while Oscar Galagarza was 2-4 with three RBIs. Also Ryan O'Melia was 2-4 with an RBI.
Iowa Lakes continued to play on Sunday with 10 hits in the first game against Southwestern.
Kandborg and Perez each went 2-3 with an RBI and O'Melia was 2-4 with two RBIs.
Jesus Brito pitched all seven innings to improve to 3-1 on the season. He gave up one run on four hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
Iowa Lakes again had double digits in hits with 13 in the second game.
Alcides Fuguet improved to 3-2 on the season as he earned the win. He pitched six innings and gave up two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Perez picked up his second save giving up one hit and one walk with one strikeout in one inning of work.
At the plate, Luis Gonzales a 2-2 with an RBI, Kandborg was 2-3 and Ramirez was 2-4 with two RBIs. Malduino Gonzalez was 2-4 with an RBI and Arroyo also went 2-4.
Iowa Lakes (12-10 overall, 4-4 in conference play) is scheduled to host Minnesota West in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
