Members of the Emmet County Volunteer Network met at Iowa Lakes Community College Monday to view a new website that should be operational by mid-May.

The site,, was designed by Iowa Lakes Community College student Brian Nock.

Mary Steele, RSVP director, updated everyone on the volunteer network, noting that the volunteer group in Clay County was about nine months ahead of that in Emmet which was in turn ahead of Kossuth County as far as being up and running. Steele also noted the Clay County board has obtained ongoing funding.

Steele said that in Clay County, she was finding that getting volunteers and partners - or organizations that would avail themselves of network volunteers - was going rather slow, something she attributed to online signup. She also noted that people have the option to sign up on paper.

Steele said that in Clay County four or five Iowa State University students had spent a week producing designs from which the volunteer group chose one for use on its website, bookmarks, business cards, letterheads and envelopes.

Linda Anderson, Emmet County RSVP coordinator, said there have been a number of requests to use volunteers. And Steele noted a growing number of volunteer opportunities.
