Thanks for a great ride

April 16, 2013
Estherville Daily News

To the Editor:

As I come to the end of my law enforcement career, I find the need to thank a few people.

First, I would like to thank the late Dan Gronbeck for taking a chance on a former packinghouse worker with no experience. I hope I never disappointed him.

Second, I need to thank every deputy, police officer, state trooper, reserve, dispatcher and jailer who ever assisted me with a call. Unless you've been there you can never know the comfort felt at the sight of another squad car pulling up to a scene at two in the morning, or a helpful voice on the radio.

I need to thank my family for spending twenty-six years rearranging holiday and birthday celebrations around the nights, weekends and holidays schedule of a road deputy. A special thank you to my son and daughters for understanding when Dad had to miss their school sporting events, concerts and plays because he had to work.

Most of all I'd like to thank my wife who had to accept the late night phone calls and odd hours. Your support meant everything.

It's been a quite a ride. Not all of it good, not all of it bad, but I wouldn't change a thing.
