Iowa Lakes welcomed the warm weather and the return to the diamond by shutting out visiting Minnesota West twice on Thursday.
The Lakers opened the doubleheader with six runs in the bottom of the first inning of game one on the way to a 7-0 victory.
The Lakers also plated six runs in the third inning of a 10-0 victory in game two.
Austin Smith pitched the first shut out as he gave up just two hits and struck out seven batters.
The Lakers had eight hits with Steve Kandborg going 2-4 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base. Leonardo Ramirez was 2-3 with a run and an RBI. Kevin Arroya also was 1-3 with a run and an RBI. Edison Perez was 1-3 with a run.
In the second game, Christian Torrech pitched another two-hit shut out in five innings of work. He struck out six batters.
Iowa Lakes again had eight hits. Oscar Galagarza was 2-2 with a tripe, two RBIs and two runs. Edwin Torres was 1-3 with three RBIs. Kandborg, Perez and Tanner Johnson each went 1-2. Kandborg had an RBI.
Iowa Lakes (15-17 overall and 5-11 in conference play) is back in action on Saturday in Burlington to play Southeastern.
