Southeastern sweeps Iowa Lakes

BURLINGTON - The Iowa Lakes baseball team just couldn't put host Southeastern away as the Lakers lost four close games to the Blackhawks this past weekend.

On Saturday, Southeastern rallied from a 5-3 deficit to win 8-5 in the first game of a doubleheader. In the second game, the Lakers attempted to rally from a 7-4 deficit, but fell short and lost 7-6. In both games, the Lakers had 10 hits and four errors.

In the first game, Chaday Figueroa pitched 5 1/2 innings and gave up four hits with four strikeouts, but Edwin Dominguez took the loss.

At the plate, Edwin Torres was 2-4 with a double and an RBI, Leonardo Ramirez was 2-4 and Kevin Arroyo was 2-3 with an RBI.

In the second game, Jonathan Brinez took the loss as he pitched six innings and gave up seven runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts. At the plate, Steve Kandborg was 2-3 with a solo home run, Ryan O'Melia was 2-4 with two RBIs and Ramirez was 2-4 with a run. Arroyo was 1-3 with a double and two runs.

In Sunday's first game, Southeastern broke a 5-5 tie with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and held on for a 7-5 victory. The Lakers fell behind 5-0 in the second game and ended up losing 5-2.

In the first game, Jesus Brito pitched 5 innings an d gave up seven runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts as he took the loss.

Ramirez was 2-4 with two doubles and two RBIs and Tanner Johnson was 2-3.

In the second game, Jordan Petschke took the loss. In three innings, he gave up five runs on five hits with one strikeout. Four of those runs came in the third. Tyler Von Hatten pitched two innings of relief and gave up just one hit with one strikeout.

At the plate, Malduino Gonzalez was 2-4 with a run and Arroyo was 2-2 with a double.

Iowa Lakes (15-21 overall, 5-15 in conference play) hosts the Buena Vista JV in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
