The Emmet County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved the purchase of a motor grader for $289,800.
The quote from Ziegler Cat of Mason City was for a 2013 Cat. The price includes a $47,500 allowance for a trade-in.
The other bid by Murphy Tractor & Equipment company of Ft. Dodge was for a 2013 John Deere for $288,756 - just a $1,044 difference.
When asked which machine the secondary roads department preferred, Rich Blinkmann said both were good machines and held their value well.
When secondary roads employee Travis Fredricksen said he liked the Cat, noting that he thought it would hold its trade-in value better, supervisor Bev Juhl moved that the board approve the Ziegler quote, and the board approved.
