CHEROKEE - The Estherville Lincoln Central boys' tennis team picked up a few wins, but couldn't quite come up with enough to beat Cherokee on Tuesday.
The Braves took a 4-2 lead in singles and went on to a 6-3 victory.
ELC won matches at the No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Thomas Bortvit won 6-1, 6-3 over Alexx Mauer and Tim Soper won 7-6 (10-8), 6-3 over Nathan Dodd.
At the No. 6 singles, Jacob Olson lost in a tiebreaker, 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (11-9).
The Midgets picked up just one doubles victory as John Reisner and Soper won 7-5, 6-2 over Connor Ogren and Mauer.
ELC almost picked up a second doubles win, but Levi Jensen and Olson lost in the tiebreak, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8).
In other singles play, Brad Olsen lost 6-2, 6-2 to Brett Walker; Jensen lost 6-2, 6-2 to Alec Schultz and Reisner lost 6-2, 6-2 to Ogren.
At the No. 1 doubles, Olsen and Bortvit lost 6-0, 6-2 to Walker and Schultz.
In exhibition play, Brandon Sharar lost 8-0, Kyle Marks lost 8-0, Koby Schubert lost 8-1 and Jose Rodriguez lost 8-1. In doubles, Sharar and Marks lost 8-3 and Schubert and Rodriguez lost 8-1.
ELC travels to the district tennis meet in Storm Lake on Thursday.
