MARION - The Iowa Lakes men's golf team was in action at the NJCAA Region XI golf tournament on Monday. After round one, the Lakers were in fourth place-eight shots out of the lead of Kirkwood.

The Lakers shot a first day score of 314 led by freshman Brandon Klein with a 75. Jeremy Wollenburg shot a 79. Austin Sweeney and Blake Orton both came in with 80s. Non-counting score was Ben Nath with an 81.

"The guys battled out there and to be 8 shots out of the lead, well we are right there," said Iowa Lakes coach Andy Soper. "We need to have a good day tomorrow to make a run at it. Brandon had a great round today he needs to keep doing what he's doing."

The Lakers continued play at Hunter Ridge Golf Course in Marion for the final round of the Region 11 golf tournament on Tuesday.
