SPENCER - Estherville Lincoln Central's golf season came to a close Friday as the Midgets finished sixth at the Class 3A Sectionals in Spencer.
With the top two teams advancing to districts, Humboldt won with a 313 while Spirit Lake finished with a 318. Storm Lake was a stroke behind with a 319 followed by Spencer with 327, MOC-Floyd Valley with 331, ELC with 340, LeMars with 349 and Algona with 357.
"Although we certainly wanted to advance on to districts, I was proud of the kids effort," said ELC coach Dave Van Roekel. "Jack Brashear had a nice round, and Hunter Gifford really played well in the last outing of his career."

Brashear finished 12th overall with an 80 with Tucker Milburn finished 22nd overall with an 85.
Gifford finished with an 87 while Corey Reeves shot an 88.
Non-counting scores were a 93 by Chris Seylar and a 99 by Clay Tredway.
"The four seniors on this squad, Tucker Milburn, Hunter Gifford, Levi Quastad, and Ben Huntley will certainly be missed as they provided great leadership throughout the season," said Van Roekel. "It's been a privilege to be around all these young men this golf season, and with hard work on their games this summer, next year should provide them with some exciting results."
Storm Lake's Ryan Gutz led the field with a 73 while MOC-Floyd Valley's Brett Bomgaars was second with a 77.
Spirit Lake's Zack Skopec was one of five players tied for third with a 77. Teammates Corey Potter and Matt Heaton were tied for ninth with 79s while Trevor Caldwell finished with an 83.
Non-counting scores were a 91 by Max Kruse and a 96 by Grant Schuehert.
