LEMARS - The Estherville Lincoln Central/Emmetsburg girls' tennis team almost wrapped up play for the season at the Class 1A Individual Tournament in LeMars on Thursday.
Rain delayed the final match for ELC/Emmetsburg's top player, Bailey Hagen, who was playing for third-place and the state alternate spot.
Hagen, a senior from Emmetsburg, entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed.
She opened the day against Spencers' Katie Wilkerson and won 61-, 6-4. She then defeated Spirit Lake/Okoboji's Anna Vos 6-1, 6-1.
In the semifinals, Hagen faced the top seed, Carolyn Ahlers of LeMars and lost 6-2, 6-2.
She was about to play in the third-place match against Storm Lake's Lannie Brown, when a rainstorm descended on the courts in LeMars.
That match will be played on Tuesday in Spencer.
The rest of Midgets were unable to get out of the first round.
The team's No. 2 player Maddy Burns started the day against third-seeded Emily Ahlers and lost 6-2, 6-0.
"Maddy probably played one of her best matches, but Emily is a solid player," said ELC coach Larry Kirchner.
In doubles play, Amber Schacherer and Mackenzie Wilson lost their match, 6-2, 6-2 to Bishop Heelan's Morgan Froehlich and Arianna Kefgen. Both are seniors, who played in their final high-school match.
Sophomores Samantha Rosinger and Emily Jorgenson also lost their opening match, 6-3, 6-2 to Emily Burns and Jenna Nissen of Spencer.
"they're a young doubles team and they've improved a lot this year," said Kirchner. "With some work in the offseason, they have a lot of potential."
