ARMSTRONG?- The Armstrong City Council Monday approved hiring a second full-time employee for the city maintenance department and repairs on the storage quonset.

The council agreed to hire Michael Cummins at $12.75 a hour. Cummins will handle garbage hauling and other maintenance-related duties as assigned.

The council also approved a bid of $1,200 by Marty Dahl to repair metal sheeting on the city quonset. That's in addition to a quote of $6,587 by Central Petroleum Company to powerwash and apply an asphalt-based silver paint.

There was some discussion as to whether it might be better to replace the quonset with a 100X42 shed - the same size as the quonset - for $24,900. Maintenance director Tom Leach said that was the amount for a building shell with four overhead doors.

"At this point in time we don't have enough money anyway," council member Don Leach said of buying a new building, preferring to repair the quonset.

Council member Dave Grussing suggested that the best plan for the future might be to build one structure that would house both the shop and equipment.
