Warriors beat No. 4 Garrigan

BANCROFT - North Union out-hit fourth-ranked Bishop Garrigan 14-13 and defeated the Bears 10-5 on Thursday.

The Warriors scored five runs in the second inning to build their lead and led 10-1 heading into the top of the sixth inning. Garrigan scored a run in the sixth and three in the seventh before the Warriors shut them down.

Colin Runksmeier pitched six innings in getting the win. He gave up five earned runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

Garrett Johnson closed out the game striking out three batters and giving up two hits in one inning of work.

At the plate, Johnson was 4-4 with two RBIs, Colin Runksmeier was 2-5 with an RBI, Brandon Kollasch was 2-4 with three RBIs, Cody Runksmeier, Spencer Ricke, Alex Deitering, Corey Vaske, Jake Govern and Jake Adams each had a hit. Ricke, Deitering and Vaske each had an RBI.

Andrew McGuire took the loss for Garrigan. He gave up 10 runs (seven earned) on 14 hits with three strikeouts and three walks in five innings of work.

Spirit Lake 10, Harris-Lake Park 0

BANCROFT - Spirit Lake improved to 2-0 with 10-0 five-inning victory over Harris-Lake Park on Thursday.

Paul Brown threw a one-hit shut out as he struck out nine batters and walked one.

The Indians had 10 hits from seven different batters.

Brown was 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Reese Salmon was 2-2 with a double and three RBIs. Cole Tate was 2-4 with two RBIs and Nick Wetzler was 1-1 with two RBIs. Also, Andrew Ites was 1-2 with a double and an RBI, Nic Amudson was 1-1 and Nick Wetzler was 1-2 with an RBI.

Spirit Lake (2-0) was at Sheldon on Friday. The Indians host Emmetsburg on Wednesday.

Spirit Lake 9, Harris-Lake Park 6

SPIRIT LAKE - Spirit Lake rallied with seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Harris-Lake Park 9-6 on Thursday.

The Indians had seven hits in the game. Paige Peterson, had a single, a walk and scored twice. Mikayla Brockmeyer came up with a double in the seventh inning and scored a run. Hannah Sudbrink also had a double and scored once.

Bailee Newman earned the win on the mound. She gave up six runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts.

Spirit Lake (1-2) is on the road against MOC-Floyd Valley on Tuesday.
