This Saturday the annual Emmet County Relay for Life will be held in Library Square, a time to honor cancer survivors and those who have passed on from cancer.
If you think about it, the impact of cancer is staggering. Is there even one of us who hasn't lost a friend, loved one or relative to cancer? What was the financial cost? What was the emotional cost?
Now, look around you. How many people do you see that have fought cancer - and won? Chances are, there are many.
Education, awareness of family histories and early detection and treatment have helped many survive who only a generation or so ago would not have had a chance.
The Emmet County Relay for Life is a way to celebrate these successes in the fight against cancer.
The Relay is a celebration, as it should be - a celebration replete with music, testimonials and stories of those who have bettered the odds in their own personal fight against cancer and won.
There's the survivors walk and the lighting of the luminaries toward dusk - a hauntingly beautiful experience if there ever was one.
There will also be photos taken of all the relay teams organized to raise money to fight cancer right here in Emmet County.
We encourage you to come out and enjoy this event that celebrates past and future victories against cancer - right here in Emmet County.
