By Michael Tidemann - Staff Writer , Estherville Daily News

ARMSTRONG?- The Armstrong-Ringsted Board of Education Tuesday night approved a wage and benefits package calling for a 3.8 percent increase for teachers and support staff. The agreement brings into line all salary levels impacted by the whole-grade sharing agreement with North Kossuth and Sentral school districts.

Also approved was a $36,000 early retirement cash incentive. To qualify, teachers must be a minimum age of 56 with 15 years of service and apply for the package by this Aug. 1 with the understanding they will teach for one more year. The money would be paid in two installments - Oct. 31, 2013 and April 30, 2014.

Superintendent Matt Berninghaus at the meeting also reviewed preparations for the June 25 special re-organization election with Sentral.

Polls will be located at the Armstrong Community Center, Ringsted Public Library and Fenton School with voting from noon to 8 p.m. Absentee ballots were available in the Emmet County Auditor's Office May 23. Absentee ballot requests must be received by the auditor by 5 p.m. Friday, June 21.

The board also passed a resolution stating that re-organization was in the long-term best interest of district patrons.

The board appointed Williams & Company as 2012-13 auditor and with regret accepted the resignation of instrumental music director Kim Godtland who is taking a position at Boyden-Hill. Also accepted was the resignation of Lydia Fothergill as dance coach.

The board received the Iowa Assessment date report from Renee Siepma.

In the activities report, Berninghaus reviewed a trip to the senior center with students.
