HULL - Estherville Lincoln Central took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, but couldn't stop Western Christian from scoring four runs as the hosts won 4-2 on Thursday.
Billy Snyder took the loss for ELC as he pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three runs (one earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
"Billy threw a good game, but the defense didn't make plays when we needed to," said ELC coach Lee Evans.
Offensively, the Midgets didn't have any help from the bottom of the order.
ELC scored first in the top of the third when Snyder led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Snyder.
After Matt Burrell reached base on a fielder's choice, he stole second and scored on a double by Tucker Milburn.
In the fifth inning, Snyder again led off with a single and went to second on Reiter's sacrifice bunt. Burrell came up with the RBI single.
Snyder was 2-4 with a run and Burrell was 2-3 with a run and an RBI. Milburn had the only other ELC hit and was 1-3.
Tyler Van Engen earned the win for the Wolfpack.
ELC (2-4 overall, 1-1 in the Lakes Conference) travels to Humboldt for a tournament on Saturday. The Midgets play Central Springs at 12:30 p.m. with Belmond-Klemme and Humboldt meeting on the other side of the bracket.
The ELC junior varsity defeated Western Christian 6-0.
Carsten Bosch pitched all five innings and gave up two hits with four strikeouts and five walks. At the plate, Blake Gjerde was 2-2 with an RBI and Chase Bonner was 1-3 with an RBI. Austin Egeland and Mike Simon each went 1-2 and Zach Humble and Cole Budach each had an RBI.
