Warriors split games in Spencer

SPENCER - North Union traveled to Spencer for a tournament Saturday and split its two games there.

The Warriors defeated Sioux Central 9-0 and then were shut out by Sioux City West 11-0 in five innings.

Against Sioux Central, North Union put up three runs in the third and used four hits and three walks to score six runs in the fourth.

Garrett Johnson finished 2-4 with two RBIs while Alex Deitering was 2-3. Sawyer Doocy was 1-4 with a pair of RBIs while Brandon Kollasch was 1-2 with an RBI. Also Spencer Ricke was 1-32 and Cody Runksmeier and Jake Adams each went 1-2.

Corey Vaske pitched all seven innings striking out six batters while giving up six hits and two walks.

Against Sioux City West, North union struggled defensively with five errors. Only two runs were earned. Johnson took the loss as he pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up 10 runs (one earned) on six hits with one strikeout and four walks. Deitering closed out the game and gave up one earned run on three hits with one strikeout and one walk.

North Union's bats struggled against West's Tucker Askelson who limited the Warriors to three hits while striking out four and walking one.

Cody Runksmeier, Colin Runksmeier an Johnson each went 1-2.

North Union was in Graettinger facing the Titans on Monday for a Cornbelt Conference doubleheader.
