ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Arnold Thorsland, 81, of Estherville will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Doug Burton officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery in Estherville.

He died Monday, June 3, 2013, at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91 of Estherville.

Arnold LeRoy Thorsland, the son of Lewis and Ethel (Pickell) Thorsland, was born Nov. 27, 1931 in Gruver.

Arnold grew up and received his education in Gruver. He started working with Rock Island Railroad and then was drafted to the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict.

On Sept. 14, 1957 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Marie Syverson in Fairmont, Minn. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Estherville. Arnold continued working with the railroad and retired in October of 1993. Evelyn died on June 26, 1991. For hobbies, Arnold enjoyed traveling, camping and most important was spending time with his family.

Arnold was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Left to cherish Arnold's memory are his children, Shirley Jensen and her husband, Eugene, of Estherville; Shelley Anderson and her husband, Brent, of Estherville; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Jason Spoo of Estherville; Shawn Reinking and his wife, Jenny, of Bella Vista, Ark. and their children, Austin, Travis, Conner and Peyton; Jean Reinking and her fiance, David, of Estherville and their children, Alyna and Aracely; Justin Spoo of Estherville and his son, Mason; and Brian Jensen and his fiance, Brandy, of Estherville and their children, Noah and Hailee; and his half-brothers, Francis, Robert and Jack Fisher; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Beverly Steinberger and brother-in-law, Don Syverson.

He has been preceded in death by his wife, parents, siblings, Richard Thorsland and Joan Mortimore; nephew, Steve Smith Sr.; sister-in-law, Donna Thorsland and brothers-in-law, Bob Steinberger and Warren (Shorty) Mortimore.

Arnold will be loved and missed by many.
