By the time Estherville Lincoln Central's offense finally put something together, the Midgets trailed visiting Algona 8-1. The Midgets mustered three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs, but couldn't keep the offense going in the 8-4 loss.
Tucker Milburn started on the mound and gave up a leadoff walk. Three consecutive singles later Algona had a 1-0 lead. But a base-running error by the Bulldogs allowed ELC to get one out. Milburn struck out the next two batters to get out of the inning.
Algona's defense was helped by two double plays on the night.

Algona scored again in the top of the third inning with a leadoff single by Tyler Frideres, a sacrifice bunt and then a two-out RBI single by Bulldog pitcher Chandler Holmes.
ELC got that run back in the bottom of the fourth inning. Milburn and Justin Frederick hit consecutive-one-out singles and Swanson drew a walk to load the bases. Bryce Hansen then hit a grounder to second base and courtesy runner Carsten Bosch scored on the fielder's choice as the Bulldogs took the out at second base.
In the fifth and sixth inning, the ELC defense struggled with an error in the fifth and two in the sixth as Algona scored three runs in each inning.
ELC tried to rally with two outs in the sixth when Algona replaced Holmes on the mound with Landon Rash. Swanson drew a walk and Austin Egeland was hit by a pitch. One ELC run scored when a ball hit to shallow left by Reeves was dropped. Evan Hansen and Billy Snyder then hit consecutive RBI singles before the Bulldogs finally got out.
Swanson, who had relieved Milburn in the sixth inning, sent the Bulldogs down in order in the top of the seventh.
Matt Burrell then led off the bottom of the inning with a single. But Dan Christensen hit a hard liner right back to Rash and Burrell was doubled up at first base. A groundout ended the game.
Eight players had one hit for ELC. Swanson was 1-1 while Milburn and Bryce Hansen each were 1-2. Snyder and Evan Hansen both went 1-3 while Adam Reiter, Burrell and Frederick all went 1-4.
Milburn took the loss as he gave up five runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Swanson gave up three unearned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
