Duard F. Perdue

Swea City - A funeral service for Duard F. Perdue was held on Monday, June 10, 2013, at 11 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Swea City, with Pastor Todd Hartsock officiating. Burial was in Swea Township Cemetery, rural Swea City, with military honors conducted by the Seely-Walsh American Legion of Whittemore.

Duard Francis Perdue was born Sept. 30, 1921, in DeSoto, IA, son of Lionel and Elizabeth (Lane) Perdue. He grew up in DeSoto where he attended school. Duard then worked on the family farm and also did farm work for their neighbors. At the age of 20 he joined the Navy and served his country from 1942 to 1945.

Duard was married to Sylvia Isaacson on Nov. 24, 1943, at the Kossuth County Courthouse in Algona. The couple farmed west of Swea City for 10 years and then he had his own trucking business hauling grain and livestock for 10 years. He and Sylvia drove Winnebago Motor Homes across the country for five years. Duard then was a driver for Miracle Recreation Company delivering playground equipment across the country. He retired in December, 1986.

Duard loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed riding his Harley with Sylvia and touring the country side. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing.

Duard F. Perdue died Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Good Samaritan Society, Estherville at the age of 91. He had been a resident there since January 2009.

He is survived by his wife Sylvia, resident of Good Samaritan in Estherville; four children, Linda (Richard) Winkleman of Pillager, Minn., Randy (Rhonda) Perdue of Swea City, Marian (Ron) Duer of Estherville, and Donna (Dan) Bredeson of Emmetsburg; a daughter-in-law, Moni Perdue of Swea City; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. He is also survived by one brother, Jerry Perdue of Charleston, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Larry in 2004; two grandsons, Jeremiah in 1999, and Tim in 2011; and four brothers, Donald, Eugene, Gerald, and James.
