On June 9, 2013 the Estherville Police Department received a complaint from a female resident reporting that she was sexually assaulted at a residence in Estherville. Upon further investigation it was also determined that there was illegal drug activity, as well as, alcohol being provided to persons under age 21 occurring at the residence.
During the investigation, Estherville Police obtained a search warrant for the residence. The search warrant was executed on June 10, 2013 and officers located items of drug paraphernalia. As a result of the investigation officers charged Shane Kelly Trompeter, age 35, of Estherville with 1 count of sexual abuse in the third degree, a class C felony; two counts of providing alcohol to a person under age 21, both simple misdemeanors; and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Class C felonies are punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of at least $1,000 but not more than $10,000. Simple misdemeanors are punishable by up 30 days in jail and a fine of at least $65 but not more than $625.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty a court of law.
