Warriors edge past Cowboys

BANCROFT - One night after losing a pitchers' duel, North Union edged Clarion-Goldfield in a slugfest 13-12 on Wednesday.

The two teams combined for 25 hits in the contest.

The Warriors took an early 5-0 lead in the first inning, but the game was tied at 9-9 after the visitors scored five runs in the top of the sixth. Both teams scored three times in the eighth.

In the bottom of the ninth inning Garrett Johnson hit a leadoff double and Clarion-Goldfield reliever Matt Odland then walked the next three Warrior batters-Alex Deitering, Logan Hellman and Jake Govern-as the Warriors pushed the walk-off run across.

For North Union, Colin Runksmeier was 4-6 with thee RBIs, Sawyer Doocy was 2-5 with an RBI, Jake Adams was 2-4 with an RBI, Spencer Ricke was 1-2 with an RBI, Govern was 1-3 with three RBIs. Deitering was 1-4, Johnson was 1-5 and Cody Runksmeier was 1-6.

Cody Runksmeier started on the mound. He went four innings giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits with five walks and five strikeouts. Cody Runksmeier and Corey Vaske pitched the next 1 2/3 innings without giving up a hit, but combined to give up five runs (four earned) with four walks and one strikeout. Kollasch pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits with one strikeout and one walk. Johnson pitched the final two innings to get the win. He struck out two batters and walked one.

Wolfpack shuts down Indians

HULL - Spirit Lake suffered its second loss of the season as Western Christian shut out the Indians 2-0 on Wednesday.

Paul Brown took the loss for Spirit Lake as he gave up the two unearned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Spirit Lake managed just two hits. Brandon Stoll was 1-2 and Cole Thate was 1-3.

Western Christian's Tyler Van Engen earned the win as he struck out five and walked one.

Spirit Lake (8-2 overall) travels to Bancroft for the North Union Tournament on Saturday.

Spirit Lake downs W. Christian

SPIRIT LAKE - Spirit Lake picked up a key conference victory with a 9-7 victory over Western Christian on Wednesday. The Indians plated seven runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-7 lead and then added an insurance run in the sixth.

Bailee Newman earned the win as she gave up seven runs (five earned) on five hits with five strikeouts and eight walks. The Indian finished with nine hits. Alissa Christoffer was 2-3 with an RBI and Carly Ites was 2-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Erin Dau, Kayla Herrig, Paige Krause and Mackenzie Thate each went 1-4. Krause had two RBIs while Herrig, Thate and Hayley Roberts each had one RBI.

Spirit Lake (9-9 overall) hosted Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire on Thursday. The Indians are at Emmetsburg on Monday.
