Three arrested after Estherville traffic stop

Three people are facing alcohol and drug charges after a traffic stop this past weekend in Estherville.

Shortly after 10:45 p.m. Saturday, Estherville police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation in the 300 block of Central Avenue. Officers identified the driver as John Leuer, 18, of Mallard. While officers were speaking with him they were able to smell an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. Upon further investigation officers located two open containers of alcohol, as well as drug paraphernalia in the passenger compartment.

As a result of the investigation, Leuer was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. A passenger in the vehicle, Joshua Frederick of Emmetsburg, 18, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of an open container of alcohol. Another passenger, Brody Metzger, 18, of Wallingford, was arrested for possessing an open container of alcohol.

The three men were placed in the Emmet County Jail and released the following morning on an unsecured signature bond.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
