Spencer may have scored first, but Estherville Lincoln Central shut down the Tigers after their third-inning run and went on to win 5-1 on Monday.
Liz Brashear was the winning pitcher for ELC as she gave up one run on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
The Tigers scored their one run after a leadoff single, a wild pitch, a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly.
ELC responded immediately.
Kristin King drew a leadoff walk and Macy Dahl singled. When Carson Gjerde hit a ball back to the Spencer pitcher, she elected to try to get force at third base. An error on the throw allowed King to score as Dahl and Gjerde ended up on third and second, respectively. A wild pitch allowed Dahl to score.
ELC added three insurance runs in the fourth inning.
After a one-out single by Rachel Bates, King hit a two-out RBI double. A bloop single over second base by Dahl allowed King to score. Carson Gjerde then singled to right as Dahl scored.
Spencer's best chance came in the sixth inning when Kari Kramer hit a one-out single followed by Brashear's second walk of the night to Karis Rhode. But Kramer was called for interference when Taylor Anderson hit a grounder to shortstop Emily Kirchner and the inning ended when Mackenzie Rosendahl grounded out to Kirchner.
The Tigers went down in order in the bottom of the seventh.
ELC finished with eight hits. Dahl was 2-4 while Joslyn Moore was 1-1; King was 1-2; Brashear, Megan Jensen and Bates all were 1-3 and Gjerde was 1-4.
ELC (13-9 overall, 7-3 Lakes) is home against Spirit Lake on Wednesday.
