With just two hits against Spencer, Estherville Lincoln Central didn't give itself many chances to score in a 4-0 loss to the Tigers on Monday.

Brady Illg pitched the shutout for the Tigers while striking out seven and walking just two batters.

"We didn't put any pressure on their defense," said ELC coach Lee Evans. "Yes their kid threw a nice game, but we have to find a way."

ELC had an early chance to score in the bottom of the first.

Billy Snyder led off with a bloop single, but Adam Reiter was unable to lay down a bunt before getting two strikes. He hit into a fielder's choice as Snyder was out at second base. Derek Nieland was then hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second with one out. But then he was picked off at first base and clean-up batter Matt Burrell went down on strikes.

ELC's other chance came in the sixth inning as Snyder drew a leadoff walk and Reiter singled. This time Nieland laid down the bunt to move runners to second and third. But Spencer recorded to straight outs to get out of the inning.

Tyler Swanson took the loss for ELC. He gave up five hits while striking out two batters and walking six.

Snyder was 1-2 and Reiter was 1-3.

ELC (7-11 overall) is home against Spirit Lake on Wednesday.
