ELC earns split in final day at Spencer

NU wins final two including rematch with Midgets

SPENCER - Three area teams spent the weekend at the Spencer Tournament this past Friday and Saturday.

As reported Saturday, Class 2A No. 2 North Union won both its games on Friday while Estherville Lincoln Central lost both its games.

On Saturday, North Union again earned a pair of wins by defeating MOC-Floyd Valley 8-0 and then ELC 7-2.

ELC won its first game of the day on Saturday with a 7-6 win over Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn.

Spirit Lake split its two games both days for a 2-2 record.


Estherville Lincoln central built a 6-0 lead over Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn through 4 1/2 innings but then had to hold on for a 7-6 victory.

After scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh, MMC had the bases loaded when ELC's Liz Brashear struck out the final batter. She earned the win, giving up six runs (two earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts, one walk and a hit batter.

At the plate, Emily Kirchner was 2-4 with a double, three RBIs and a stolen base. Macy Dahl was 2-4, scored three times and had a stolen base. Caitlyn Clayton was 2-4 with two RBIs and a triple. Kristen King was 1-2 with a run and Brashear was 1-3 with a run.

ELC vs. North Union

Carson Gjerde started on the mound for ELC and North Union scored six runs.

The Warriors scored two runs in the first inning as Cheyanne Boland drew a one-out walk. Autumn Boland doubled and courtesy runner Anna Ingalls and Autumn Boland both scored on Collete Haag's double.

North Union plated four runs in the third as Cheyanne Boland led of with a solo home run. Autumn Boland doubled while Collete Haag and Dena Looft both drew walks. Sara Rolling and Sara Johnson both recorded RBI singles.

North Union's Allie Ingalls got the win as she went the distance, giving up two earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts.

Gjerde went 2 1/3 innings and gave up six runs on six hits with three walks. Brashear closed out the game as she gave up one run on four hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

At the plate for North Union, Autumn Boland was 3-4; Haag was 2-3 with two RBI; Rolling was 1-3 with two RBI; Johnson was 1-4 with two RBI; Cheyanne Boland was 1-3 with an RBI; and Allie Ingalls and Jasmine Clausen each went 1-3.

For ELC, Brashear was 2-3 with an RBI; Joslyn Moore was 2-3; Emily Kirchner was 1-3 with a double and a stolen base and Macy Dahl was 1-3 with a double and an RBI.

North Union vs.

MOC-Floyd Valley

North Union started quickly against MOC-Floyd Valley. With two outs in the first inning, Autumn Boland singled and Haag doubled. Looft drew a walk with a double by Rolling knocking in two runs.

In the fourth inning, Johnson and Clausen led off with consecutive singles. A sacrifice bunt by Taylor Mathine moved the runners. A single by Ingalls scored Johnson. Cheyanne Boland's sacrifice bunt scored Clausen. Autumn Boland then hit a two-run home run.

In the sixth inning, Haag hit a two-run home run.

Peyton Oleson earned the win as she pitched six innings, giving up three hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.

North Union (21-2 overall) had a scheduled doubleheader against Harris-Lake Park on Monday. The Warriors are at Lake Mills today.

Spirit Lake vs. MOC-Floyd Valley

Taking a 5-4 lead into the seventh inning, Spirit Lake outscored MOC-Floyd Valley 3-2 to win 8-6 on Friday.

Sami Ashland earned the win as she went 5 1/3 innings and gave up four earned runs on 10 hits with one strikeout and one walk. Bailey Newman pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up two runs (one earned) with two strikeouts and five walks.

Spirit Lake had nine hits. Alissa Christoffer was 2-3 with an RBI; Whitley Kafton was 2-3; Mackenzie Thate was 2-4 with two RBIs; Newman was 1-2 with an RBI; Paige Krause was 1-4 with an RBI and Kayla Herrig was 1-4.

Spirit Lake vs. North Union

As reported Saturday, North Union defeated Spirit Lake 7-4. The highlight for Sprit Lake was a three-run home run by Paige Krause who finished 2-3 with three RBIs. She also had a triple. Carly Ites was 2-2.

Newman took the loss giving up seven runs (six earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and five walks.

Spirit Lake vs.

Sioux Center

On Saturday, Spirit Lake opened with an 8-2 win over Sioux Center. Ashland pitched all seven innings giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and no walks.

Spirit Lake had seven hits. Thate was 2-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Kafton was 2-3 with an RBI and Christoffer and Krause each went 1-4.

Spirit Lake vs. Denison-Schleswig

Spirit Lake was shut out against Denison-Schleswig 3-0. The Monarchs scored one run each in the first three innings. Newman took the loss giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

Spirit Lake was held to three hits. Krause was 2-3 and Thate was 1-3.

Spirit Lake (15-11) was scheduled to travel to LeMars on Monday. The Indians are at Sheldon today.
