ARMSTRONG?- The Armstrong-Ringsted Board of Education reviewed the steps that will follow after the successful school consolidation vote with Sentral Tuesday.

A total of 87 percent of A-R voters approved consolidation, with 81 percent of Sentral district patrons approving the merger, or an average of 86 percent.

Superintendent Matt Berninghaus requested two board meetings in July. The first, at 6 p.m. July 11, will be to appoint three current A-R board members to the newly formed North Union board. Berninghaus said that meeting would also focus on the usual beginning business of the year.

The second A-R board meeting will be held 5 p.m. July 22 followed by the first North Union board meeting at 6:30 p.m. with the five members of the newly formed North Union board taking their oath of office at that time. An interim board secretary appointment will be made at that meeting. A North Union board president will be elected as well as vice president and an interim superintendent will be appointed.

In action items, the board approved an amended sports sharing agreement, adding a middle-school cross-country program and K-8 wresting with North Kossuth as fiscal agent.

The board approved a salary of $2,100 for the high-school cross-country position which will be filled by Marcey Norland and also approved a $2,500 raise for business manager/board secretary Erin Rogers.

A salary of $67,000 was approved for Robert Zotz who will serve as assistant principal, activities director and curriculum director.

The board approved two resignations, Troy Adams as high-school co-head football coach and Joe Johnson as high-school assistant football coach.

New hires approved included Andrew Robinson, vocal music; Heather Hagebock, dance coach; Marcey Norland, high-school cross-country coach; Tom Elliott, head football coach; and John Wimmer, assistant football coach. The board also approving hiring Spencer Clausen as summer weight room supervisor. Berninghaus said Clausen has been donating his time at the weight room since the second week of June.
