SWEA CITY In a battle of ranked teams, Class 2A No. 1 North Union had little trouble with Class 1A No. 3 Newell-Fonda.
After 3 1/2 innings, North Union led just 1-0, but the Warriors plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth and five in the fifth to cut the game short, 10-0.
The Warriors first score came in the second inning as Collete Hag hit a solo home run.
In the fourth inning, Haag led off with a double with Sarah Rolling driving in pinch runner Kyarsten Mullen when the right fielder dropped a long fly ball. Sara Johnson reached on an error and jasmine Clausen singled to load the bases. A single by Allie Ingalls brought in two runs with Cheyanne Boland following with an RBI single.
In the fifth inning, Haag was hit by a pitch and scored on a single by Looft. Rolling walked and Clausen hit a one-out, two RBI single. With two outs, Ingalls and Cheyanne Boland hit back-to-back singles to end the game.
Ingalls was 3-4 with two RBIs while Boland was 2-4 with three RBIs and Clausen was 2-3 with two RBIs. Also Haag was 2-2 with an RBI; Looft was 1-3 with an RBI and Johnson was 1-3.
Ingalls pitched all five innings. She struck out eight and gave up five hits.
North Union (25-2) was at Forest City on Thursday. The Warriors travel to a tournament in Storm Lake this Saturday.
