With the big Fourth of July holiday coming up, now is a good time to plan ahead - and be save and not sorry.
First, and foremost, we should be aware of safety around fireworks. Whether you're using them or merely standing by as an observer, we should be aware that ALL fireworks can pose a danger. So please, please be careful.
Alcohol, of course, is something that can pose a problem for some people on the Fourth. While drinking alcohol in itself may not be a problem, it's what we do along with it that can - driving, boating or using fireworks.
The heat, of course, can pose its own set of problems. It's quite easy to overexert ourselves, so we should always make sure we have plenty of water before any strenuous activity - whether it's related to work or play.
Food safety is yet another concern during the holidays. We should make absolutely sure that the food we set out for that potluck is safe. Follow recommended cooking times and temperatures and make sure that food isn't left out for an extended time. And if you're not certain, don't eat it.
If you're traveling, make sure you allow plenty of time to get there to avoid speeding. You had better bet that the police will be out in force, and if you break the law you will get caught.
Just following a few commonsense safety rules can help make the difference between an enjoyable holiday and a tragedy.
So please be safe - not sorry.
