ARMSTRONG?- The Armstrong City Council monday approved a bid of $12,340 by Chuck Holm Construction for a metal shingle roof for the city park shelter.

All but $1,340 of the project will be covered by grants.

The council debated for some time whether it might be better to opt for a $16,000 metal shake roof or for just a metal roof.

Council member Dave Grussing thought the steel shingle construction would work well, particularly with its 50-year warranty.

The council approved the bid which includes labor.

In other business, the council discussed when the new garbage truck will arrive. Maintenance supervisor Tom Leach said the truck chassis was scheduled for delivery to the location where it will be fitted with a box which will up to another two months. Dailey said the city was scheduled to stop its service with Waste Management Nov. 1 and that the city is still determining who will handle recycling.

City clerk Connie Thackery reported that the quonset roof was done. The city repaired a portion of the side and had a coating applied over the exterior.

The council approved hiring JoAnn Eaton as pool manger for the rest of the summer at $9.25 an hour.

Also approved was a cigarette license renewal for HiWay Grocery and Caseys and a beer license renewal and Sunday sales for HiWay Grocery.
